One early lesson I developed to help students practice navigating the Internet is this “Seven Wonders Project.”
Students determine what they consider to the the seven modern wonders of the world and then contrast this with the classical version.

Students then create a presentation using technology available that's appropriate for their work.
An additional task is for them to use Google Earth and place mark each of the seven wonders. They can then create a "tour" and post their file.
I also ask if students can identify the 8th wonder, a musician. They do this via email directly to me for extra credit.
